Nicknamed "Olympic Fanfare," this piece is synonymous with the Olympics. In Satie's letters he wrote that, unlike Ravel, Debussy was reluctant to reveal his influence on him. Debussy’s next orchestral work was called Images. Ansermet�s recording is a remarkable achievement. The textures in Karajan's 1965 La Mer are thick and clotted; Tilson Thomas's Prélude à l'après‑midi d'un faune with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1971 is slightly bland. (I appear to be in the minority regarding those opinions, however.) However, all the non-orchestral tracks are excellent, in particular helping us cover a few more high spots in Debussy's chamber music. Claude Debussy was a French composer, one of the most prominent Impressionistic composers.
